PTC  has announced the availability of Windchill ProductPoint. Windchill ProductPoint helps smaller companies experience the benefits of product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions without the high cost of a full PLM system. Windchill ProductPoint also offers companies an easy to deploy solution for CAD and other structured data sharing among project teams. Companies with an active SharePoint strategy can extend their product development system to broader user communities with this product.

A case in point is the customer, Hess Services, Inc., headquartered in Hays, Kansas, which offers design and manufacturing services for oil well servicing rigs, petroleum surface production equipment, and steel and fiberglass tanks. Hess Services did not have the technology infrastructure to support the company’s growth, as it had tripled in size during the past 3 years with an 82 percent growth in annual revenue from 2007-2008. The company standardized on PTC Pro/ENGINEER in order to manage large complex assemblies. The requirements of an ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) pressure vessel certification, which requires a document control system, spurred Hess to find such a system to satisfy the requirements. Windchill ProductPoint suited the companys needs as an entry-level product to a product lifecycle management system that would make it possible for design teams to share and revise product information, provide version control, and allow users to search and maximize product development information.
