ROMER Inc. (Wixom, MI; romer.com) recently launched ScanShark, a new inspection and reverse engineering system including ROMER’s seven-axis INFINITE portable CMM, a ScanShark 4Vi laser scanning probe, PolyWorks software, and a laptop or desktop computer.
The mobile metrology system is an articulated arm measurement and laser-scanning device for on-demand part inspection and reverse engineering on the shop floor.
The ROMER ScanShark is scalable and offered in three configurations — an inspection system with PolyWorks/Inspect, a reverse-engineering system with PolyWorks/Modeler, and a full inspection and reverse-engineering package with PolyWorks Inspect and Modeler.
The ScanShark 4Vi laser scanning probe enables rapid data collection at 23,000 points per second. The noncontact device can generate point clouds for reverse engineering applications, identify part surface errors, and check deformable objects made from thin or soft materials such as fabrics, leather, foam, rubber, plastic, sheet metal, and similar materials.
The INFINITE CMM is available in 6-, 8-, 9-, 10-, and 12-foot measuring envelopes. The articulated arm features the ROMER patented “infinite rotation” and integral low-profile Zero-G counterbalance that reduces user fatigue. The system also has an optional rolling cart base.
