Parallels has expanded its relationship with HP to include an offering that combines the HP Z800 Workstation, which is based on the Intel Xeon 5500 series processor, with Parallels Workstation 4.0 Extreme and select NVIDIA SLI Multi-OS enabled Quadro FX graphics cards. The combined products will be available as a configure-to-order solution via standard HP Workstation channels and will be supported by both HP and Parallels.
Parallels Workstation 4.0 Extreme is a workstation virtualization solution that offers users near-native performance for resource-intensive applications, according to the company. The product leverages virtualization technologies from Intel, including VT-x for accelerated virtual CPU performance, VT-d for direct high performance NVIDIA FX graphics card and NIC assignment, and Extended Page Tables (EPT) for improved performance in memory management.
By offering the solution on pre-configured and validated workstations, HP and Parallels enable enterprises around the world to derive value from the performance of the HP Z800 Workstation and increased productivity through driving multiple workloads.
“After several years of deep technical engineering collaboration by HP, Intel, NVIDIA, and Parallels, the vision of delivering virtual workstations to the market is now a reality,” said Serguei Beloussov, CEO of Parallels. “Technical workstation users, from graphic designers to engineers in multiple disciplines around the world, can now leverage HP’s experience in delivering technically elegant solutions and robust services to support the deployment of Parallels Workstation 4.0 Extreme in their enterprise. At the same time, they can continue to count on Parallels to deliver new enhancements and innovations, such as adding support for Intel’s EPT technology, to even further blur the line between physical and virtual workstations.”
The HP Z800 Workstation with NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800s and Parallels Workstation 4.0 Extreme is available now, and is expected to be available with the Quadro FX 4800s and FX 5800s next month.
