Object Workshops, Inc. (Kansas City, MO), Honeywell FM&T (Elk Creek, VA) and METROSAGE LLC (Volcano, CA) have combinedforces to create a solution for automated measurement process planning. Thisteam of experts will address the need for improved and automated measurementplanning processes and the requirement for certified-correct measurementprograms with lower cost and shorter time-to-measure.
Industryexperts say that the primary recurring cost of quality for dimensional metrologyis attributed to the generation of coordinate measurement machine (CMM) partprograms, a process that introduces many complexities.
At theDimensional Metrology Standards Consortium (DMSC) Measurement Process PlanningCommittee meeting, the team demonstrated its automatic generation of a validatedmeasurement plan from a toleranced CAD model and the ability to translate thesubsequent plan into a specified part program format (i.e., DMIS). Included inthe measurement plan was such information as CMM movements, data pointlocations, CMM and sensor selections, and workpiece placement.
The initialresults were generated in a generic format, which was then converted into a DMEformat. Metrologists can spend hours or days completing this work, however, itwas completed within 10 minutes using this plan.
