Graebert GmbH has announced that its ARES Commander Edition 2D/3D CAD software for Linux is now available. It is being offered at an introductory price of $495 through the end of October, which represents a 50% discount from the standard retail pricing of $995.
Optimized for the Ubuntu version of Linux, Graebert now offers a native 3D CAD solution for all three major desktop operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. ARES Commander Edition is designed for 32-bit versions of Ubuntu 9.10, Fedora 11, Suse 11.2, Mandriva 2010, or higher versions. Other Linux versions are in progress. iPad support is also under active investigation, according to the company.
ARES for Linux takes advantage of Ubuntu’s user interface (UI). ARES also offers users a choice of experiencing a fully Linux-specific UI or a UI that matches the Windows version. Both UI versions are command compatible with AutoCAD.
In related news, Graebert has partnered with Lightworks, a supplier of rendering solutions for developers of advanced 3D computer graphics software.
ARES is one of the first CAD products to be integrated with Artisan SnapShot Studio, a new application for the generation of photorealistic images from 3D CAD data that also provides pre-configured workflows. Using “drag, drop and render’“styles for ease of use, Artisan is currently available on the Windows platform, with a Mac version to be released later this year.
