The XDI (XTREME Desktop Infrastructure) virtual workstation series from BOXX Technologies Inc. provides design and engineering organizations the capability to host up to eight virtual workstations on a single server. With an XDI setup, designers, engineers, architects and 3D artists can remotely access compute-intensive applications, large data sets and high-speed shared storage in a single centralized, secure environment. The XDI series is available in configurations that support a single user, four users and up to eight users.
The XDI V8 virtual workstations deliver remote access workstation capabilities for up to eight concurrent users. Housed on a single 2U server, the XDI V8 solution, says BOXX, is ideal for users running graphics-intense applications such as Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, Solid Edge, SolidWorks and 3ds Max.
Key features include up to eight GPUs individually dedicated to each user, a Tera2 PCoIP (PC over Internet Protocol) card from Teradici Corp. that handles pixel stream compression and encryption, remote display support for dual or quad displays, and dual Intel Xeon E5-2600v3 Series processors (up to 36 cores per system). The XDI V8’s supported operating systems are VMware VSphere Essentials on the host and Microsoft Windows on the guests.
A basic XDI V8 configuration features dual 2.6GHz Intel Xeon processors (16 Cores), 128GB of memory, AMD FirePro R5000 GPUs and 128GB SATA storage. Expansion opportunities include up to 512GB of memory as well as up to eight GPUs individually dedicated to each user.
The XDI V8 has eight 3.5-in. hot-swap drive trays and a single slim DVD R/W internal drive. The XDI V8 also provides support for 500GB to 4TB of 3.5-in. SATA storage as well as 120GB to 1.2TB SSD (solid-state drive) storage. Connection ports include two rear USB ports and two RJ-45 Integrated Intel Gigabit LANports. Expansion slots include four PCIe 3.0 x16 (full height, full length, dual width) and a single PCIe 3.0 x8 (in x8 slot, low profile). Optionally, the XDI V8 can be outfitted with up to eight AMD FirePro R5000 GPUs or up to four single-slot NVIDIA Quadro GPUs.
Also available from BOXX are the XDI V4 and the XDI S1 configurations. The XDI V4 provides similar capabilities as the XDI V8 for up to four concurrent users on a single 1U server. The XDI S1 is a single-user solution that connects one user to one physical rack-mounted remote access workstation.
