Antec, Inc. (Fremont, CA), which makes high-performance computer components for the PC upgrade and Do-It-Yourself markets, is now shipping EarthWatts, its most environmentally friendly power supply unit (PSU) yet.
EarthWatts allows system builders to reduce the amount of energy consumed by computers in three ways. First, EarthWatts is certified to be 80 PLUS compliant, a new standard for power supply energy efficiency. The 80 PLUS specification requires computer and server PSUs to be at least 80% efficient at 20%, 50%, and 100% rated loads.
Second, EarthWatts meets the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) requirements, ensuring that materials such as lead and mercury are not used in the manufacturing process.
The final element contributing to EarthWatts’ environmental friendliness is Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) with power factor value up to 99% to reduce electrical waste.
Available in 380W, 430W, and 500W models, EarthWatts features ATX12V 2.2 compatibility, an 80mm low-noise fan, and dual 12V outputs for the motherboard, peripherals, and processor. The PSU is protected from short circuits, power overloads, and over- or under-voltage. Additionally, EarthWatts includes four serial ATA connectors and PCI-E connectors: one each for the 380W and 430W models and two for the 500W model.
“As consumers take action to protect the environment, Antec encourages everyone to look for solutions that help conserve energy and eliminate waste and pollution,” said Scott Richards, senior vice president for Antec. “EarthWatts is our most energy efficient design, and it provides users with the power and stability they have come to expect from Antec products. With the 80 PLUS certification, EarthWatts is leading the way in reducing energy consumption and protecting the environment.”
EarthWatts is available for an estimated street price of $64.95 to $99.95, depending on the model. For additional product information and full technical specifications, please visit antec.com.
