MathWorks Expands Support for Programmable SoCs

MathWorks, with the newest release of MATLAB and Simulink, has expanded support for Altera SoC (system on chip) FPGAs (field programmable gate arrays) and Xilinx Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoCs.
The product families incorporate dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 as well as programmable logic fabric. This technology provides engineers the ability to design and implement algorithms on a single chip with less space and power. Now, the added support offers a guided workflow to develop and simulate algorithms that can be validated and deployed in SoC devices.
This expanded support is also available for the Xilinx Vivado Design Suite and Zynq SDR development platforms.
“MathWorks expects semiconductor vendors to continue to expand their offerings of heterogeneous, programmable SoCs” said Amnon Gai, manager, Corporate Development and Partner Programs at MathWorks. “As applications are migrating from processor-only technology to programmable SoCs, the ability to generate C and HDL code from MATLAB and Simulink makes MathWorks uniquely positioned to address the growing demand for a unified hardware/software workflow using model-based design.”
