Aras Innovator PLM is based on the Aras Enterprise Application Framework, a model-based service oriented architecture (SOA) built on open web standards. The Aras Framework says the company, drives the creation of highly scalable, flexible, and supportable applications that are said to deploy quickly and adapt to evolving needs. Aras offers a range of PLM solutions for managing such processes as bills of materials, configurations, engineering change orders, quality, regulatory compliance, and supplier corrective action.
The new release of Aras Innovator PLM, says the company, features a 10X increase in speed, 10X reduction in memory, and compressed AML/XML package sizes 6X smaller compared to previous releases. These performance enhancements, explains the company, make Aras Innovator “the fastest PLM platform for multi-CAD check-in/check-out.” Additionally, automated conflict detection, a rapid status check for an entire CAD structure, a single compressed metadata commit, and high-performance parallel, asynchronous file check-ins for each level of the CAD structure are said to provide greater reliability and faster performance.

Now embedded in the Aras Innovator PLM platform are MFT (managed file transfer) capabilities through TRUaras from Trubiquity Inc., a provider of secure cloud-based MFT services. With TRUaras, users can securely share and exchange large CAD assemblies, technical data packages, manufacturing data, inspection and test results, and other intellectual property with full tracking and traceability, according to Aras. Users can send an unlimited number of transactions by means of TRUaras, and file sizes are not limited. The company adds that TRUaras is a free service for users running Aras Innovator and that TRUaras comes with every Aras download.
Among the other enhancements in the new release of Aras Innovator PLM highlighted by Aras are a silent installer for virtual machines, server farms, and cloud environments; improved one-click Excel and Word data export; feature activation for easy evaluation and enablement of new applications; and a variety of new user personalization and configuration capabilities.

“With improved API (applications programming interface) capabilities and a unified CAD data model across mechanical and electronics, Aras is delivering a new level of multi-CAD management performance in this release,” said Peter Schroer, president of Aras, in a press statement. “We believe global enterprises with complex, geographically distributed design environments need greater scalability and much faster performance than they’ve been able to get from the other major PLM systems, and that’s why it’s been a key area of focus at Aras for this release.”
Aras uses Microsoft products as its infrastructure platform, including server, database, and browser. Required products include SQL Server, .NET, IIS, Windows, and Internet Explorer. The newest version of Aras Innovator PLM offers updated support for Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Windows Server 2012, Windows 8, and Internet Explorer 10.
Aras Innovator PLM can be downloaded directly from the company’s website. Companies with an Aras subscription package receive free upgrades to the latest release regardless of the amount of customization in their current deployment.
