World Design Organization (WDO) reports that after a call for applicants worldwide, 21 new designers from 15 countries have been selected to participate in the second term of its 2022-2023 Young Designers Circle (YDC) program.
Established in 2020, with a goal to harness the creativity and ambition of designers aged 30 and under, WDO’s YDC program aims to create an open space of discussion across multiple disciplines and regions to help support existing WDO initiatives and explore new opportunities, locally and internationally, the organization reports.
“While their professional backgrounds span a variety of disciplines, the designers selected have demonstrated a keen interest in helping WDO meet its mission towards leveraging the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) to design a better world,” states Meghan Preiss, WDO board member and former YDC participant. “As WDO’s youngest acting Board Member, I can attest to the value of this programme’s opportunity for growth and learning. We hope to continue building this network and to deliver tangible outcomes in the months ahead.”
Under the direction of three expert coaches, the 21 young designers will collaborate over the next 18 months on a variety of international projects and events. As a continuation of the work accomplished during the 2020-2021 inaugural cycle, the 2022-2023 Young Designers Circle will strive to:
- co-design actionable recommendations to tackle key challenges recognized by designers worldwide
- identify emerging best practices in design that impact policy and the UN SDGs; and
- contribute to the expansion of the design field and WDO’s mission of design for a better world.
