Wolfram Workbench Boosts Mathematica’s Capability for More Complex Projects

Wolfram Research(Champaign, IL) recently announced the release of Wolfram Workbench, anintegrated development environment (IDE) that incorporates Mathematicatechnologies.

Complementing Mathematica’s programming language and features forcomputation, visualization, and modeling, Workbench is suited fordevelopment of large-scale technical solutions, according to a pressrelease.

Wolfram Workbench is based on Eclipse IDE, making it easy for Eclipseusers to adopt. Existing Mathematica-based developers gain access tostate-of-the-art development tools.

“We can now develop both Mathematica and Java code in the same IDE andprofit from the version control and build-management infrastructure wehave already established around Eclipse,” said Sascha Kratky ofUnisoftware Plus, a developer of custom software solutions.

Key features in Workbench enable users to perform source code editingwith syntax highlighting, error reporting, and local variable coloring;study code as it runs; profile the code’s execution and develop and runtests; manage multiple versions of files and access version histories;and build and deploy Mathematica packages.
 
Wolfram Workbench is now available as a prerelease to Premier Servicecustomers. It is scheduled for final release in July 2006 for Windows,Mac OS X, and Linux platforms. Price: $145 (suggested).
