UGS Corp.(Plano, TX) is distributing a new Teamcenter solution that enablesmanufacturers subject to environmental regulations to increase productcompliance and reduce failure rates by building complianceconsiderations early into the design phase. The new solution is part ofthe compliance management offerings found in the Teamcenterd PLMsoftware portfolio.
Across all industries, compliance with regulatory authorities andgovernment guidelines has become a key factor in product success. A newreport from the industry research firm AberdeenGroup says leadingcompanies use technology to “support designers in making the rightcompliance choices at the point of design.”
According to the report, moving toward identifying and meetingcompliance requirements early in the product design process leads to a27 percent product recall reduction, a 15 percent reduction in designfailure rates, and a 31 percent improvement in the number of productsin compliance.
New capabilities in Teamcenter as a result of the new environmentalcompliance offering include end-to-end collection, management, andreporting of environmental compliance and material content information, restrictions on the use of hazardous substances (RoHS), and waste fromelectrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) directives.
Teamcenter’s environmental compliance solution enables productdevelopers to easily capture detailed material and substance data thatpertains to each of the components provided by the product’s varioussuppliers. This data is captured in the form of product requirements.Once the material and substance data is captured by Teamcenter, productdevelopers can relate this data to a hierarchical model that fullydefines a part in terms of its underlying substances, materialcomposition, technical materials, part composition, and environmentalpart data.
The Teamcenter environmental compliance solution was developed through a partnership with Synapsis Technology (Spring House, PA), a provider of environmental compliance management systems.
