Cray Inc. (Waltham, MA) and Interactive Supercomputing Inc. (ISC; Seattle, WA) announced a partnership that brings a new level of interactivity to Cray’s supercomputing customers. Cray will now offer the Star-P open-parallel computing software platform on its Cray XT4 and Cray XT5 massively parallel processor (MPP) Linux-based supercomputers.
The partnership will enable Cray users to transform their Windows or Linux desktop applications into extreme-scale parallel server applications that generate and analyze massive data sets, enabling users to explore these massive data sets in an interactive computing environment with high sustained compute performance for productivity gains and faster time-to-discovery. This partnership will allow new users in life sciences, government, financial services and other computing-intensive industries to tap the power and scalability of Cray systems.
Star-P enables scientists, engineers, and analysts to code algorithms and models on their desktops using popular desktop tools like MATLAB, Python, and R, running them instantly and interactively on Cray XT systems. Star-P’s interactive environment provides continual feedback and refinement of algorithms and models, resulting in applications developed in days, not months or years. Star-P will also help customers take advantage of Cray’s XT5h hybrid supercomputer.
