SPSS Inc.(Chicago, IL), a provider of predictive analytics software, recentlyunveiled SPSS 14.0, an enhanced version of its flagship statisticalsoftware package. The new release was designed to further extend thereach and power of predictive analytics.

As global companies are recognizing that statistical and predictivetechnologies are key corporate assets, organizations must shift themaway from isolated desktop environments to enterprise-level, open andintegrated systems to fully harness them. SPSS 14.0 is intended tofacilitate and accelerate this process with full data management andenhanced reporting capabilities, easy data validation, easier and morepowerful forecasting, extended programming, and expanded structuralequation modeling options.

Users can now open multiple datasets within a single SPSS session,read/write Stata files, import data from SPSS’ Dimensions, and more.The new Chart Builder interface enables users to drag thumbnail sizedpictures of chart and element types to a canvas to preview and createcharts. A new add-on module enables easy validation of data, and userscan save time by automatically determining which model best fits theirtime-series and independent variables. And a new programmabilityextension enables third-party programming languages to control the flowof syntax jobs based on variable attributes, procedure output, anderror codes.

SPSS Server 14.0 includes a new administration function to allow formore efficient use of resources available from overall network trafficto individual user prioritization. New functionality is included toincrease productivity when utilizing large datasets and expand the setof predictive analytics available to the analyst. Naïve Bayes andFeature Selection are new in SPSS Server 14 and allow analysts toreduce large amounts of information down to smaller and more precisesubsets for more exacting creation of predictive models.
