SolidCAM Ltd. (Or-Yehuda, Israel) has announced SolidCAM2007 R11, which further expands the software’s 3D Milling functionality by providing a high-speed machining module (HSM) for molds, tools and dies, and complex 3D Parts. According to the company, the new HSM module expands the 3D machining capabilities of SolidCAM by allowing users to generate complex NC programs for different high-speed cutting machines.

SolidCAM’s HSM Module is said to smooth the paths of cutting moves and retracts wherever possible to sustain a continuous machine tool motion. These attributes are essential for maintaining higher feedrates and eliminating dwelling. Retracts to high Z levels are kept to a minimum; angled where possible and smoothed by arcs. Additionally, retracts do not go any higher than necessary, which minimizes air-cutting and reduces machining time.
The HSM Module’s machining passes operations support enhanced point reduction and arc fitting. This, says the company, results in an efficient, high-quality, and gouge-free toolpath as well as better surface quality, less wear on cutters, and longer machine tool life.

Other features of the new HSM Module include the ability to calculate rest machining in areas where the final cutter is smaller than the curvature of the part; the ability to create a succession of rest finishing toolpaths from a series of successively smaller cutters; and tool-holder collision checking.
SolidCAM holds a Certified Gold-product status from SolidWorks Corp., providing single-window integration and full associativity with SolidWorks The new SolidCAM2007 R11 will be available shortly.
