SLM Solutions, a company focused on metal-based additive manufacturing, announces a solution that changes the scale of what can be
manufactured. The solution will enable production of high-quality metal parts up to a size of 3.0x1.2x1.2 meter (LxWxH), SLM Solutions reports. The large-part machine concept contains a core unit and a build envelope flexible in size that allows the manufacture of components in individual dimensions.

Coupled with SLM technology, the solutions offers users production with individual requirements—without familiar limits. Large parts often cannot be built because they exceed the installation space available on the market. The flexible system can solve this problem. For example, it allows the production of cylindrical parts with a diameter of 1.8 m and a height of 1.6 m or alternatively long parts with a dimension of up to 3.0x1.2x1.2 m. It enables a build rate of up to 330 cm³/h.

“This is yet another piece of game-changing technology that opens up new possibilities to transition applications AM, by removing
previously accepted geometrical restrictions,” Sam O’Leary, CEO of SLM Solutions explains. “Every price of technology we develop is testament to our incredible team of relentless innovators, who solve our customers' manufacturing challenges and change the future of manufacturing forever.”

The new solution allows to produce large metal parts to be manufactured additively. It offers advantages of SLM technology as all other SLM machines, such as freedom of design or reducing multiple parts into one.

“It is not only a simple addition to SLM Solutions machine portfolio. It is a real revolution of manufacturing. We can’t wait to show the giant and massive metal parts. It's almost unbelievable, but convince yourself,” comments Sam O’Leary.
