SIMSOLID Releases Power Edition

The company has also received seed funding from New Enterprise Associates.

SIMSOLID has released SIMSOLID Power edition, a package that extends model size and computer core utilization. The company has also added a new non-linear analysis type. The base software became commercially available in January and is designed to eliminate geometry simplification and meshing in finite element analysis.

The software’s new features include:

  • New hinge constraint boundary condition. This may be applied to full or partial cylindrical faces that can be either concave or convex. The hinge constraint will allow free rotation about the center line of the cylindrical faces but constrain movement in both the radial and axial directions.
  • New bearing load boundary condition. This may be applied to full or partial cylindrical faces that can be either concave or convex. Controls are provided for easy specification of direction and load span angle.
  • No limit on number of parts. SIMSOLID Standard is limited to 150.
  • No limit on number of computational threads. SIMSOLID Standard is limited to 8.
  • New geometric nonlinear analysis option – provides the ability to do a large deformation, small strain analysis.
  • New follower loads – all loads now have optional setting to change (follow) the deformed direction of the model.
The SIMSOLID computational engine is based on extensions to the theory of external approximations. SIMSOLID DOF (degrees of freedom) are functionals with geometrical support in the form of volumes, areas, line clouds, and point clouds. This provides the ability to handle geometrical imperfections, as well as assembly contact imperfections like gaps, penetrations and ragged contact areas, the company states.

“SIMSOLID solves a fundamental problem” says Ken Welch, CEO, “being able to directly analyze fully featured CAD geometry without meshing opens simulation to a whole new group of users and applications.”

Additionally, SIMSOLID has received seed funding from New England Enterprise Associates to accelerate development.

“Structural simulation is a $1.2B market with huge opportunities for process improvements,” said Greg Papadopoulos, venture partner at NEA. “SIMSOLID’s structural analysis technology simplifies many complicated issues faced by design engineers. We are thrilled to partner with the team on their journey to transform preliminary design simulation.”
