Sensirion has launched the STS21 digital temperature sensor. Based on the same chip as the SHT2x family of humidity and temperature sensors, the new device is housed in a tiny DFN package measuring only 3x3 mm. This makes the sensor ideal for use in applications where limited space is available. It delivers accuracy of plus or minus 0.22 degrees Celsius over a temperature range of 5 to 60 degrees Celsius, and consumes very little power.

The STS21 is pin and protocol compatible with Sensirions standard SHT21 humidity sensor, but it has a different I2C address. This allows the STS21 to be used as alternative to the SHT21 in applications where temperature measurement is required and humidity measurement is optional, since the same hardware can be used with both sensors.
