The new i4 AR-Viewer from CAD Schroer brings the ease and utility of the smartphone into product development. The viewer allows complex 3D models to be viewed as they would appear in a real-world environment.
The i4 is available as a free or paid app in the download stores for Android and Apple mobile devices. In use, CAD Schroer says it is a simple matter to upload product models to the i4, making realistic product review available to anyone without the use of existing CAD software and controlled internal networks.
The only difference between the free and pro versions is in model size. The free version loads OBJ files of up to 7 MB and FBX models of up to 4 MB. For larger files, users can upgrade to the professional model for less than $5. A set of sample models come with the viewer to help the new user become familiar with the app’s operation.
The i4 AR-Viewer recognizes surfaces such as tables or floors, allowing the user to place the product in a realistic setting. Once the 3D model is in the i4 viewer, it can be reduced, enlarged or rotated with screen gestures, allowing a view from all angles and of all sizes.
The i4 has a concise user interface, eliminating any need for training. If someone can use a smartphone’s camera, they can use the i4.
Augmented reality is becoming an vital part of product development. The new i4 AR-Viewer makes this innovative technology accessible to anybody who needs to review models for new product development. It could also be used for sales and marketing campaigns.
The CAD Schroer i4-AR Viewer is now available as a free download from Google Play and the Apple App Store.
