Open-E Launches Software Defined Data Storage Software

Features include thin and over provisioning, data compression and tiered RAM and SSD caching.

Open-E, a developer of data storage software, has released the newest version of its flagship product, Open-E JupiterDSS (data storage software). This application comes with features such as thin provisioning, compression and de-duplication.

JupiterDSS is designed to take advantage of what the ZFS and Linux operating systems have to offer, and is accessible through a web-based graphical user interface (GUI). This, according to the company, eliminates the need to use a command line interface. The web GUI provides administration of features such as:

  • Massive scalability through nearly unlimited LUN sizes
  • Tiered RAM and SSD caching for additional performance
  • Thin and over provisioning for advanced utilization and administration of storage capacity
  • Data de-duplication and decompression
  • Check-sum data integrity checking
  • Self-healing for repairing silent data corruption
“I am very excited to announce an expansion of our product line to answer to that request, Open-E JupiterDSS. Through diligent work by our engineering team and listening to our customers and partners, we have created a software defined storage system that enables our customers to implement a unified SAN solution to their exact requirements,” said Krzysztof Franek, president and CEO of Open-E. “With Open-E JupiterDSS, we continue to provide innovative licensing and pricing for our products. There are no hidden feature costs as often occur with competitive offerings and customers only need to pay for the capacity they actually use — not for caching, spares, or mirrored drives.”
