Moldflow Corporation(Framingham, MA), a provider of design through manufacturing solutionsfor the plastics injection molding industry, has announced two newhardware releases designed to offer better performance, value, andconformity to international ecological standards. The Altanium X and XEHot Runner Process Controls are for injection molders who needhotrunner control, and process setup, monitoring, and optimization.
According to a press release, the next-generation process controlsoffer more simplicity, higher zone configurations, and enhancedfunctionality while conforming to the EU Hazardous Substances FreeDirective (RoHS). The Altanium X series contains all of the featuresand functionality of existing systems in a smaller, more compactfootprint. These features include standard 15 amp per zone capacity,full thermocouple isolation, mold diagnostics, two-leg switching andfuses for each leg, auto tune algorithms, thermocouple rewiring, andslaving capability. The Altanium XE series adds extended capabilitiesincluding 0.1 degree temperature control resolution, expanded molderror detection, on-screen board diagnostics, and a three-year warranty.
The Altanium X and XE are fully integrated control systems. Both areconfigurable with MoldMount technology to eliminate power andthermocouple connection cables to and from the mold. Moldflow says thisconfiguration has saved customers many hours of downtime and manythousands of dollars.
Moldflow also released the first stage of a next generation of ModularData Acquisition Devices. ModDAQ will be used in conjunction withShotscope, MPX, and Altanium product offerings. The first release isthe Model 8020, which is designed for molders who require a lowerchannel count and a significantly lower price point than itspredecessor, the A9800 Machine Interface Unit.
