BOXX Technologies recently introduced a new addition to its GoBOXX mobile workstation line, the GoBOXX 15 SLM. BOXX Technologies describes the compact GoBOXX 15 SLM as designed for creative professionals in engineering, architecture, media and entertainment and similar fields and that it provides support for professional workflows with true workstation performance. The company adds that the GoBOXX 15 SLM is “ideal” for such applications as AutoCAD, CATIA and Autodesk Inventor and that it runs Autodesk Revit and SolidWorks natively.

The lightweight (4.36 lbs.), ultra-thin (0.78 in. thick) GoBOXX 15 SLM mobile workstation features a 15-inch, IPS (in-plane switching) LCD display panel, high-performance 2.8/4GHz Turbo Boost option, and a Full HD or Ultra HD screen. It uses a professional-grade NVIDIA Quadro K2100M graphics card and the user’s option of either the Intel Core i7 4720HQ quad-core 2.6/3.6GHz Turbo Boost CPU or the high-performance Intel Core i7 4980HQ quad-core 2.8/4.0GHz Turbo Boost CPU.

This processing power, says BOXX Technologies, supports rendering, while the Ultra HD screen option, offers ample design space and toolbar accommodation. The Ultra HD screen option also allows users to switch back and forth between Full HD and Ultra HD modes, according to the company.

BOXX Technologies reports that the optional Ultra HD display screen provides more than twice the pixels as compared to the 1080p screens in standard high-end ultra-thin laptops. The company explains that this results in greater resolution for displaying source footage natively while still maintaining all toolbars, or for presenting higher fidelity models when a higher resolution external monitor is not available.

The GoBOXX 15 SLM comes with the 64-bit Microsoft Windows 7 Professional operating system. Linux is also available as an option. Miscellaneous features include three USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI Port 1.4, audio ports, a Thunderbolt port, blue backlit keyboard, wireless LAN, Ethernet LAN and camera. The mobile workstation comes with a one-year warranty, including telephone support.

BOXX Technologies offers the GoBOXX 15 SLM in a recommended base configuration as well as QS (quick ship) and Performance editions. The recommended base configuration of the GoBOXX 15 SLM comes equipped with a 2.6GHz Intel Core quad core CPU, a 3.6GHz Turbo option, 16GB memory, a 2GB NVIDIA Quadro K2100M graphics card, 256GB SSD (solid-state drive), Full HD Panel and 1TB of storage. Its starting price is $2,484. The non-configurable, same-day shipping GoBOXX 15 SLM QS offers much the same features as the recommended base configuration. It lists for $2,485.

The Performance edition, which starts at $3,364, extends the features of the recommended base configuration with a 2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 CPU, the 4GHz Turbo option and a 512GB SSD. A quick ship version of the Performance edition is available for $3,365.

“Creative pros will get more done, faster, with GoBOXX 15 SLM than with any other mobile workstation,” said Chris Morley, BOXX senior product marketing manager, in a press statement. “With higher Turbo Boost speeds and superior hard-drive performance for Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya and Revit as well as Dassault Systèmes’ SolidWorks and other frequency-bound applications, GoBOXX delivers performance that … commodity builders can’t match.”
