Metris has released a larger version of its MCA range of 7-axis articulated measuring arms. The new arm is said to be capable of scanning, inspecting and reverse engineering larger components with its 3.6-m/12-ft. measurement diameter.
The MCA 3600 includes a ModelMaker digital laser scanner for digitizing tool for part-to-CAD comparison, feature inspection, reverse engineering and rapid prototyping operations. It is equipped with lightweight and ultra-stiff carbon-fiber tubes. Highlights also include a counter balance, ergonomic handgrip and a compact, redesigned seventh axis, that allows users to use the arm for longer periods of time. In addition to laser scanning, MCAs also supports various touch probe sensors using a tactile probe mount with a kinematic interface.
They are available in two models: the M7 (Metrology 7-axis) provide accuracy for true metrology applications, and the I7 (Industrial 7-axis) for troubleshooting, all-purpose 3D inspection and reverse engineering.
