Lease a Complete 3D Printing System

Stratasys Inc. (Eden Prairie, MN) has announced that it will begin leasing the uPrint SE and uPrint SE Plus 3D Print Packs, bundled 3D-printer packages built around its new uPrint SE (Special Edition) 3D printers. Stratasys says that it is the first company to lease complete 3D printing packages and that the average monthly lease price for a 3D Print Pack is less than the cost of a typical outsourced 3D printing job.

“With the bundled package, engineers, designers, teachers, and others can purchase a complete professional 3D-printing system,” said Stratasys Product Manager Mary Stanley in a press statement. “This makes it as simple as possible to purchase and get your machine up and running with no surprises.”

The uPrint SE and SE Plus machines supersede the company’s original uPrint and uPrint Plus units. Both new FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) machines are said to offer a material capacity of 42 cu. in. of material instead of the 30 cu. in. previously available—a 40% increase in material per spool compared to the original uPrint series, says Stratasys.

The uPrint SE uses ivory-colored ABSplus as its print material. The uPrint SE Plus uses the same ABSplus material in ivory, white, blue, fluorescent yellow, black, red, nectarine, olive green, and gray. Both 3D printers use SR-30 soluble support material, which is said to dissolve up to 50% faster than the previous support material in an agitation tank.

Both machines are designed to fit into an office environment. With one material bay, the footprint for either printer is 25x26x31 in. (635x660x787 mm). The uPrint SE Plus can accommodate a second material bay. The support cleaning system requires additional space as well as a water source.

Specifications for the uPrint SE include an 8x6x6 in. (203x152x152 mm) build size and 0.010 in. (254 mm) layer thickness. The uPrint SE Plus offers a build size of 8x8x6 in (203x203x152 mm) with layer thicknesses of 0.010 in (254 mm) or 0.013 in (330 mm). The systems operate under Windows XP and Windows 7, and offer Ethernet TCP/IP 10/100 base T network connectivity.

The uPrint 3D Print Packs come with the 3D printer, start-up supplies, a support-removal system, cleaning agent, and software to convert your CAD system’s STL output into 3D model print paths. Monthly lease packages are $290 for uPrint SE and $380 for uPrint SE Plus. Non-lease Print Pack prices are $15,900 for the uPrint SE and $20,900 for the uPrint SE Plus.
