Hexagon Metrology Announces ROMER Upgrade

The RS3 release has an acquisition speed up to nine times faster than its predecessor, the company states.

Hexagon Metrology has released the RS3 upgrade package for the ROMER Absolute Arm. The technology has an integrated laser scanner and can inspect parts in half the average time, the company states.

The Absolute Arm is suited for applications such as point cloud inspection, product benchmarking, reverse engineering, virtual assembly and CNC (computer numerically controlled) machining. It combines non-contact scanning with tactile probing to offer a multi-purpose measurement.

The release of RS3 provides greater point cloud density and has an acquisition speed more than nine times faster than RS2. It also has SMART technology that monitors the ROMER in real time, decreasing mean time to repair.

“The ROMER Absolute Arm with integrated scanner is already well-known for delivering excellent scan results, even on tricky surfaces like carbon fiber and steel. The performance improvement of the RS3 compared to the previous RS2 model is really quite extraordinary,” said Stephan Amann, product line manager at Hexagon Metrology. “Existing systems can be upgraded very quickly without returning the arm to the factory, so customers will see immediate benefits in terms of speed and usability.”
