FE-DESIGN(Karlsruhe Germany) has released version 6.0 of its optimizationsoftware TOSCA for topology, shape, and bead optimization of models tobe analyzed by industry-standard solvers ABAQUS, ANSYS, MSC.Nastran,MSC.Marc, NX Nastran, and Permas. According to FE-DESIGN, TOSCA 6.0features include improved ease-of-use, reliability, and performance forlarge optimization models, with close integration of TOSCA 6.0 in thenative CAE environment and extended capabilities regarding CAD transferof the optimization results.

TOSCA 6.0 offers a sensitivity-based mathematical programming algorithmfor topology optimization with industry-standard finite element solversand manufacturing constraints. The new algorithm allows for the freechoice of objective function and an arbitrary number of constraintsfrom volume, compliance, displacements, reaction forces, and naturalfrequencies. According to FE-DESIGN, this technology provides access tosophisticated optimization applications. Various manufacturing andsymmetry constraints are provided to calculate optimal design proposalsfor specific manufacturing processes like casting, forging, extrusion,or stamping.

The company says the CAD transfer of the optimization results in thenew version was improved by calculation of a series of user-definableslices through the topology iso-surface, which results in lightweightdata for the design process.
