3Dconnexion makes available virtual reality (VR) software extensions for 3D input devices. The integration allows existing 3Dconnexion device users to add Unreal Engine, Unity and iClone support to their devices.
These additions join the existing extensive portfolio of integrations, including most CAD programs as well as Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya; Adobe Substance Painter; Blender; Maxon Cinema 4D; and Pixologic ZBrush.
Unreal Engine and Unity are full-featured ecosystems for creating VR environments. iClone is a software application for bringing video into VR. Originally created for media and entertainment content creation, these applications are now in use for various product development and related engineering and manufacturing workflows.
3Dconnexion originally started as a Logitech division, by creating a 3D input device for aerospace designers. The division became a separate company, and the SpaceMouse and CadMouse lines have become a popular tool for CAD-using professionals.
The company says using its devices with the new software utilities make it easier to directly connect with virtual objects and environments while translating and rotating complex spaces. The new features are designed to help users better understand their location during flyovers, offer six-axis control, provide Walk Mode for getting the end-user perspective, and create cinematic experiences for presentations.
“Preset profiles with the most popular commands for each app, automatically adapting as you switch between apps, as well as endless command customization options, make this the ultimate solution for digital artists,” says Robert Stadie, product manager at 3Dconnexion.
