The Digimat-MX materials database from e-Xstream has added three thermoplastics from Victrex to accelerate the application development process while minimizing component weight and costs. These materials are ideal for aircraft manufacturers and and the aerospace industry.
Digimat is a nonlinear, multi-scale material and structure modeling platform for miromechanical modeling of composite materials and structures. It addresses engineering and end-user composite modeling needs while minimizing component weight, cost and time-to market.
The three VICTREX materials added to the database are:
- VICTREX PEEK 150CA30, which is used to replace metals such as aluminum, titanium and stainless steel. The carbon-fiber material offers high stiffness and strength as well as low flame, smoke and toxicity (FST) emission ratings.
- VICTREX PEEK 150GL50 is a 30% glass fiber-filled polymer that offers low viscosity to simplify the molding process. It delivers a balance between strength and ducility and can replace polyamides, polyethermides and aluminum.
- VICTREX PEEK 90HMF40 delivers high mechanical properties, and it has a low viscosity, making it easier to fill complex part geometries. It delivers up to 100x longer fatigue life and 20% higher specific strength and stiffness than aluminum.
