Delcam will manage RECLAIM, a £1 million project, with the aim of developing an integrated production system integrating processes for reliable, cost effective and rapid manufacturing.
This remanufacturing system, an effort that is receiving an investment of £500,000 from the government-funded Technology Strategy Board, is expected to give the UK a technological advantage over other countries. Eight organizations form a consortium in the RECLAIM project that include, in addition to Delcam: Renishaw, Electrox, TWI, Precision Engineering Technologies, Cummins Turbo Technologies, Airfoils Technology International and De Montfort University.
Developed during the project, the new system combines laser cladding, machining and in-process scanning in a single machining cell. The emphasis of the system will be on the repair of damaged parts, yet the new equipment will be useful to manufacture new metal parts, to recycle obsolete parts and to reconfigure standard parts for specialist, low-volume applications.
