The Mechanical Analysis Division (formerly Flomerics) of Mentor Graphics Corp. (Wilsonville, OR) says that its FloEFD Pro v9.3.1 Concurrent CFD (computational fluid dynamics) technology is the industry’s first fully embedded solution for PTC’s Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3D mechanical design system. The synergy between the two applications provides design engineers an integrated parametric 3D CAD/CAM/CAE capability that, according to the company, enables engineers to maximize productivity and develop innovative products cost-effectively and in less time.
FloEFD Pro v9.3.1 is reported to work directly with native Pro/ENGINEER geometry, which helps engineers keep pace with their evolving designs. Concurrent CFD can reduce simulation time by as much as 65 to 75 percent in comparison to traditional CFD tools, according to the company. The company adds that concurrent design and analysis, in turn, enables engineers to optimize product performance and reliability while simultaneously compressing development cycle time and reducing expenditures for physical prototypes and materials.
FloEFD Pro 9.3.1 provides a range of simulation capabilities for fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, including a special module for electronics cooling applications with extensive property libraries. Because it uses the same geometry, a common user interface, graphics window, and workflow for both MCAD and analysis, FloEFD Pro lets designers maintain a single set of data across their entire project design process.
“Mentor’s Mechanical Analysis Division, a Platinum Partner in PTC’s PartnerAdvantage Program, provides some of the world’s most advanced computational fluid dynamics products,” said John Buchowski, vice president, Product Management, PTC, in a press statement. “Mentor’s full support of Pro/ENGINEER will help PTC’s customers eliminate design errors, reduce costs, and optimize designs involving heat transfer and fluid flow before physical prototypes.”
“We are pleased to be a key technology partner with PTC and we believe our FloEFD Pro support of Pro/ENGINEER will be tremendously valuable to our mutual customers,” stated Erich Buergel, general manager of Mentor Graphics Mechanical Analysis Division in a press release. “Our seamless integration of our leading concurrent CFD technology with Pro/ENGINEER is designed to maximize productivity and help our customers get the right design to market.”
FloEFD Pro v9.3.1 fully embeds in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0, 4.0, and 5.0. It supports 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows XP or Windows Vista as well as Windows 7. Additional information can be found on the FloEFD web page.
