CD-adapco (New York & London) released STAR-CD V4.04, joining earlier releases on STAR-CCM+ V2.10 and STAR-CAD Series V4.14.
More than just a CFD code, STAR-CD is an integrated CAE platform for performing powerful multi-physics simulations, including combustion, multiphase flow, heat transfer, conjugate heat transfer, melting and solidification, and stress. In STAR-CD V4.04 this reputation is enhanced with new capabilities, including a new version of pro-STAR that uses an advanced GUI and offers improvements in usability and speed; has improved capabilities for melting and solidification, which are now integrated with the stress analysis capability, allowing the prediction of residual stresses in the solidified phase; introduces physical modeling capabilities including liquid film stripping; has a mesh morphing capability that simplifies moving mesh simulations, fluid-structure-interaction calculations, and optimization studies; offers greater reliability and improved speed of the solver, resulting in significant decreases in run time; and integrates the latest state-of-the-art STAR-CCM+ meshing technology including the class leading surface wrapper and polyhedral mesher.
According to CD-adapco’s VP of Product Management, Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, “Integration is a common theme running through all of our products: the STAR-CAD Series integrates industrial strength flow and thermal technology into CAD and PLM environments; STAR-CCM+ offers a single integrated process from 3D-CAD geometry to the CFD solution; and STAR-CD provides an integrated platform for flow, thermal and stress analysis.”
