The latest release of Autodesk CFD is now available for subscribers.

With the same simulation tools as past releases, the Autodesk CFD 2021 developers identified the primary focus for this release is a focus on the users. Direct feedback from computational fluid dynamics (CFD) users over the past two years through forum posts, technical support cases and general discussions with customers, has led to usability improvements and enhancements on the solvers and user interface.

Although the surface appears the same as the 2019 release, users may notice improved stability, usability and reliability of CFD simulations and results.

New dual-monitor support provides a multi-screen experience to expand the workspace. The 2021 version has improved overall stability, such as during the creation of multiple particle traces. Other user interface improvements include improved window and font sizing, and added tooltips for Solar Windows and Solar Walls. Meshing stability has also been improved to mitigate risk of failure related to extrusion meshing, seen in past releases.

There has been one general update to solving that should not affect most users. CFD introduced solving simulations using secure Cloud servers in the 2014 release (introduced as Autodesk Sim 360 Pro at the time). Although initially an exciting option for some users, the decision has been made to disable this feature in Autodesk CFD 2021.0, according to the company. Users will still be able to run remote simulations and use scalable solving through the use of their own servers/clusters; however, there will not be able to access Autodesk’s Cloud solver when launching the analysis in CFD Premium 2021.0 or CFD Ultimate 2021.0. If this change impacts your company, Autodesk recommends contacting your Autodesk sales or support representative.

Ready to Upgrade?

If you’re an active CFD subscriber, log in to your Autodesk Account to access CFD 2021. It's necessary to have a new license file created along with the installation and update to the latest Network License Manager, but if you run into any trouble, make sure to look through troubleshooting guides on the Autodesk Knowledge Network, or contact the Autodesk Support team for direct help. Also, make sure to update the Autodesk Desktop App, which is another way to access your CFD 2021 downloads.

For those not on subscription, reach out to your Autodesk partner or sales representative to learn more.
