Artec Releases Space Spider Scanner

The company has also launched Studio 10, its flagship scanning software.

Artec 3D, a provider of 3D software and hardware, has launched a new handheld scanner. The Space Spider is the company’s first upgrade to its Spider Scanner since 2013. The device is equipped with an enhanced cooling system that allows it to operate at a constant temperature throughout the entire scanning process, the company states.

The device has blue LED lights, and is capable of scanning objects of varying sizes and surfaces with an accuracy of up to 50 microns. It has a resolution of up to 100 microns, making it suited for CAD and reverse engineering applications.

“Imagine the potential of using 3D scanning technology on the international space station paired with a 3D printer,” said Artyom Yukhin, president and CEO of Artec 3D. “The Space Spider boasts an enhanced cooling system that allows the user to capture accurate 3D data more rapidly. This handheld scanner can endure some of the most difficult situations on Earth and has been engineered to perform in nearly zero-gravity environments when called upon.”

Additionally, Artec 3D has released the newest version of its scanning software, Studio. Version 10 has new features for a more user-friendly interface, automatic scan alignment, faster texture color mapping and compatibility with Kinect V2 and Intel F200. The company is offering it in two editions: Professional and Ultimate.
