SmalTec International LLC (Naperville, IL) has announced M2I7-n, micro-EDM/nano-grinding machine. According to the company, M2I7-n micro-EDM/nano-grinding machine is capable of next generation, ultra-precise results, such as perfect round holes to within 0.20-micron diameter and positional tolerance. Additionally, the M2I7-n can enable you to achieve complex micro patterns to true 3D contoured shapes.

The M2I7-n grinding results are said to produce a mirror finish surface roughness of sub-5-nanometer Rmax. Spefications for the machine include positional range of X, Y, and Z is 50 millimeters per axis, 10-nanometer step resolution, positional repeatability is 170 nanometers, 2- x 2-inch work area with 10nm movement, and discharge pulse down to 10 nanosecond.
