BOXX Technologies (Austin, TX) has introduced the 3DBOXX 3970 XTREME, the latest addition to its 3DBOXX line of workstations for visualization, modeling, 3D animation, and motion media applications. Described as “the world’s fastest workstation” for “frequency-bound” engineering and product design applications such as SolidWorks, CATIA, and Autodesk Revit, the 3970 XTREME features a performance-enhanced second generation Intel Core i7 quad-core processor along with the option of Intel Smart Response Technology. The latter is said to enable quick access to media files and accelerated performance. (See the link at the end of the article for more on Intel’s Smart Response Technology.)

The single-socket 3970 XTREME features advanced liquid cooling and the capacity to reach speeds of up to 4.5GHz. Intel Smart Response Technology reportedly allows the system to automatically learn which files you access frequently. It then copies those files from your hard disk drive to the system’s solid state drive (SSD). This, in turn, results in faster booting and faster application loading.
In addition to the SSD cache option with Intel Smart Response Technology, optional accessories for the 3DBOXX 3970 XTREME include Wacom Intuos pen tablets, Wacom Cintiq interactive pen displays, and 3D mice from 3Dconnexion. Graphic options for the 3970 XTREME include NVIDIA Quadro, NVIDIA GeForce, ATI FirePro graphic cards, and Intel HD graphics boards.
“When you specialize in professional-grade workstations, you know that creative pros require the latest innovations in order to work more efficiently and be more productive,” said Shoaib Mohammad, BOXX vice president of Marketing and Business Development in a press statement. “The availability of Intel Smart Response Technology and the latest Intel Core i7 processor provides the 3DBOXX 3970 XTREME with a level of technology and performance you simply can’t get ]elsewhere]—all at a value price.”
Pricing for a basic 3DBOXX 3970 XTREME configuration equipped with a 4.5GHz Intel i7 CPU, 4GB DDR3 memory, NVIDIA Quadro 600 graphics, 250GB SATA hard drive, 20GB SSD hard drive, and Windows Professional 7 starts at around $2,914, according to the company.
