Balloon Inspection Data Automatically

Extensible CAD Technologies (Raleigh, NC) recently announced the release of  a new version of its inspection report automation software for CATIA V5 from Dassault Systemes,  InspectionXpert for CATIA V5. Key new functionality is this release is new support for 3D models in addition to the 2D drawings previously supported,  according to the company.

Extensible CAD Technologies says that InspectionXpert for CATIA V5 is intended to “dramatically” reduce the time you spend creating inspection packages as well as increase the accuracy of your inspection reports. It does so by replacing the manual ballooning of CAD drawings and files as well as the manual entering into Microsoft Excel of dimension information for first article and in-process inspection reports. Functioning as an add-in for CATIA, the software enables you to capture inspection dimensions,  notes, geometric tolerances, hole callouts, and other other characteristics directly from your CATIA drawings and models. InspectionXpert for CATIA can automatically balloon inspection characteristics directly onto your 3D CATIA models and 2D drawing, the company reports.

InspectionXpert for CATIA V5 offers filtering capabilities that enable you to specify which types of drawing annotations to include in your inspection form. Default tolerances can be specified based on precision,  range, or drawing defaults. The software also offers you a choice of a standard inspection report template, such as AS9102 Form 3 and PPAP reports, or you can create your own custom reports for in-house use or for clients with the InspectionXpert Template Editor. Inspection forms are based on Excel templates,  which allows you to build in templates with such Excel capabilities as data-validation, conditional-formatting and macros.

“Many of our InspectionXpert for CATIA customers have standardized exclusively on 3D models throughout their design and manufacturing processes,” explained Jeffery Cope, President of Extensible CAD Technologies,  in a press statement. “Adding the ability to balloon CATIA 3D models is critical to streamlining our clients’ quality inspection processes.”

InspectionXpert for CATIA V5 is a Dassault Systemes CAA V5 Adopter product. InspectionXpert is also available in versions that read PDF and TIFF files as well as AutoCAD, Pro/ENGINEER, Solid Edge, and SolidWorks drawings.
