Wolfram Research has announced Mathematica 9, which the company says features more than 400 new functions in 57 different application areas.
The solution features the Wolfram Predictive Interface, which provides easy exploration of Mathematica’s functionality, according to the company. The context-sensitive Input Assistant offers autocompletion for options, functions, and other elements. The next-computation Suggestions Bar gives users optimized suggestions about what to do next with each result.
Mathematica 9 provides integrated units support, including free-form linguistic entry, conversions, and dimensional consistency checking across graphics and numeric and symbolic calculations.
Major new data science, probability, and statistics functionality includes survival and reliability analysis, Markov chains and queuing theory, time series, and stochastic differential equations. A new link to the R language is fully integrated into the Mathematica workflow.
The updated CDF Web Deployment Wizard supports enterprise licensing, allowing users to deploy CDFs that offer enhanced capabilities such as data import and export, working with databases, use of arbitrary input fields, and file saving. New preview modes let users verify deployed content within the development environment.
The new Image Assistant provides immediate access to common image processing tools, making it easy to interactively process images using point-and-click “all within the notebook environment. The solution renders 3D surfaces and volumes, and extends image processing capabilities, including pixel, local filtering, and morphology operations, to 3D datasets. Other improvements include import and export of HDR images and large image support using out-of-core technology.
