UGS Corp. (Plano, TX) announced that it has selected Automatic Path Planning technology from Kineo CAM(Toulouse, France) to be integrated within UGS products requiringcollision-free simulations and removal paths. The agreement expands ona previous arrangement that incorporates Kineo CAM’s motion planningtechnology in the UGS Tecnomatix suite of digital manufacturingsoftware. The combination is said to allow for automatic collision-freetrajectory creation, reducing the time required for largemanufacturing assembly and robotic processing studies.
UGS has now integrated Kineo CAM’s path planning technology withthe 3D visualization solution within the Teamcenter PLM portfolio. UGSsays that it also plans to incorporate the technology into NX, its flagship solutionfor digital product development. The Kineo CAM path planning solutionwill be added to enhance the assembly sequencing capabilities alreadyavailable in NX. It is expected to aid NX customers in designingproducts optimized for assembly, disassembly and manufacturability.Through the new module, NX users will be able to automatically define, validate, and illustrate the optimum path required forassembly/disassembly of components and subassemblies.
