MakerBot Industries and Trimensional have released a new app that lets users scan an object, upload it to the Internet, and make a physical replica on a MakerBot 3D printer, all in one quick and seamless process.
Trimensional: MakerBot Edition, allows a user to scan something, such as a friends face, and turn it immediately into a 3D model. This model can be printed to make a physical object for the user to hold.
The solution has a new set of features that help a user take a quick four-second scan of something using an iPhone. That scan is then easily uploaded to Thingiverse.com, a community site powered by MakerBot which includes free, downloadable designs for more than 20,000 objects.
