Third Wave Systems, Inc. has released AdvantEdge FEM version 5.4. AdvantEdge FEM is a materials-based software solution for the optimization of metal cutting. The finite element analysis software provides detailed information about heat flow,  temperatures, stresses, and forces for machining processes.

Version 5.4 builds on AdvantEdge FEM 5.3 and introduces additional features:

  • 3D chip refinement for added control over chip mesh.
  • Chip-only display in 3D for viewing chips independently of uncut workpieces during result analyses.
  • User-defined workpiece initial mesh size for 3D.
  • Improved 3D engine performance.
  • Performance improvements for faster 3D initial mesh.
  • User-defined 2D yield surfaces for extended control over user-defined material models.
  •

AdvantEdge FEM is designed to increase material removal rates, improve tool life, predicted chip shape, shorten product design cycles,  reduce trial and error testing, and integrate with AdvantEdge Production Module.
