Tesla Announces Powerwall

Tesla has revealed its Powerwall, a home battery to power various electronics. It charges using electricity generated from solar panels, or when utility rates are low, the company states. The device is also designed to act as a backup power supply and runs throughout the entire day.

The Powerwall comes in two configurations: a 10 kWh weekly cycle and 7kWh daily cycle. The batteries can be installed together, creating greater energy support. It has a 10 year warranty and is mounted on the homeowner’s wall. For running the device, it has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with liquid thermal control and measures at 51.2 x 33.9 x 7.1 in.

For efficiency, the Powerwall has 92% round-trip DC efficiency, the company states. It has an operating voltage of 350-450 volts with a peak output of 8.6 amps.
