TekSoft(Scottsdale, AZ) says its CAMWorks 2006EX release features a new modulefor multiaxis machining that allows a wide variety of shops andmanufacturing facilities to take advantage of 4- and 5-axis machines. They say it gives shops greater productivity and equipment flexibility, giving them the ability to machine products of better quality.

CAMWorks 4- and 5-axis simultaneous machining enables the use oftoolpaths across complex shapes that could not be machined on 3-axismachines. This includes high-performance automotive port finishing, impellers, turbine blades, cutting tools, 5-axis trimming, and undercutmachining in mold and die making. CAMWorks 4-axis simultaneousmachining is designed for complex rotary applications such ascamshafts, extrusion screws, and blades.

CAMWorks 2006EX is the third major release in less than a year fromTekSoft and leverages the CAD/CAM/CAE/PDM software expertise ofGeometric Software Solutions Co. Ltd. (GSSL). GSSL acquired TekSoft inJanuary 2005.

Significant performance enhancements CAMWorks 2006EX include areduction in file size of more than 40 percent for parts with largevolumes of advanced 3-axis toolpaths; improvements in the 3-axiscalculation speed from 20 to 50 percent; a reduction in the memoryrequired to display toolpaths; and a cut in the time needed to startsimulations for parts containing large volumes of toolpaths.

New features and cutting strategies include automatic creation ofperimeter features based on the boundary of the part model in mill andWire EDM; rough mill high-speed machining options for generatingtoolpaths with round corners and S-curve links; finish mill options forfinal cuts and numerous new bottom finish options; new mill toolpathmethod to optimize features in pocket-in and pocket-out patterns; andpencil mill strategy for 3-axis rest machining.
