SolidCAM has released InventorCAM 2012, the latest version of its CAM system, seamlessly integrated and with full associativity to Autodesk Inventor. InventorCAM 2012 launches the new iMachining module, which can reduce cycle times by up to 70% while increasing tool life.
According to the company, InventorCAM provides the same look and feel in CAM as in CAD, reducing the learning curve and enabling engineers to quickly generate efficient and safe toolpaths directly from the CAM toolbar inside Autodesk Inventor.
iMachining uses morphing spiral cuts and controlled step-over algorithms to enable tools to cut at their full depth, without suffering from shock loading or rubbing. According to the company, cutting at full depth helps to spread the load over the length of the tool, instead of the bottom few millimeters while, precise control of chip thickness, keeps cutting loads steady, enabling far greater metal removal rates to be achieved, even in hard materials.
The solution can drive multi-spindle and multi- turret mill-turn centers. InventorCAM 2012 takes advantage of iMachining for these applications to overcome the problems associated with low rigidity and over long tooling setups. Simultaneous 5-axis milling, multi-sided indexing, high speed surface engineers the ability to cut the most complex parts designed in Autodesk Inventor, while turning, mill-turn and wire EDM modules extend the software to program all the machines in the workshop.
