Sixense, a provider of motion tracking and 3D modeling solutions, announced a partnership with the Shapeways 3D printing marketplace, under which Sixense’s upcoming 3D modeling solution, MakeVR, will be integrated with Shapeways to allow users to upload, store, share and print 3D models created in MakeVR directly to Shapeways.com.
According to the company, MakeVR, planned for release in the fall of 2014, was built from the ground up to operate with motion-enabled input devices and combines a professional-grade CAD engine with a two-handed interface. MakeVR users will have easy access to Shapeways.com functionality, such as specific sizing tools to estimate the cost of printing and on-demand printing in a variety of materials.
“By lowering the barriers to content creation, MakeVR addresses one of the key challenges to growth in the 3D printing market,” said Natalia Krasnodebska, community manager at Shapeways. “The seamless experience provided by MakeVR and Shapeways together is a clear step toward our goal to make 3D printing affordable and accessible to everyone.”
“MakeVR allows anyone to create as fast as they can think and Shapeways provides consumers with the ability to print nearly anything that they can upload,” said Amir Rubin, co-founder of Sixense. “Our partnership is a great win for the entire 3D printing ecosystem.”
