simFlow 3.1 from SIMFLOW Technologies has just been released. This release extends OpenFOAM support to OpenFOAM 1612+ and delivers many new functionalities.
According to the company, simFlow 3.1 provides:
- Support for HPC computing, which allows users to submit a job to a cluster via a portable batch system (PBS) directly from simFlow, so now you can take advantage of computing resources available anywhere in the world.
- Support for distributed computing. Another functionality that gives the possibility to distribute a computing task across several computers and get the results faster; but this time it can be done using multiple machines connected to your network, so without having access to specialized HPC clusters.
- Wave boundary conditions. These boundary conditions allow to generate any type of wave when using the volume of fluid (VOF) technique for multiphase flow simulations. It can be used to analyze complex wave-structure interactions, which are important when evaluating the influence of waves on the hull performance or coastline
- Eddy Dissipation Model. This model has been extensively used in turbulent combustion modeling because of its simplicity and fast convergence, and now it is also available in simFlow. It assumes that combustion is purely controlled by mixing and can be used to simulate non-premixed flames at a relatively low computational cost.
- Discrete Particle Models. Two newly implemented discrete particle models enable simulations of dense particle clouds transported by the continuous phase; these models can be used, for example, to simulate fluidized beds and for the prediction of a cyclone separator performance.
