Siemens PLM Softwarehas announced a partnership with Cortona3D that enables the company to deliver a PLM-based 3D technical publishing solution integrated with its Teamcenter product lifecycle management software. Siemens PLM Software now has the ability to sell the Cortona3D RapidAuthor software solutions and Teamcenter Integration software directly to its customers.

“The Cortona3D RapidAuthor suite is the perfect complement to the content and document management capabilities of Teamcenter,” says Steve Bashada, vice president of Teamcenter Applications, Siemens PLM Software. “We now have the ability to offer our customers a fully integrated and comprehensive set of tools to author, publish and manage all their product support documents concurrently with the rest of the product development process. And since Teamcenter is the digital backbone for all product and process data, including 3D CAD and lightweight visualization files, our customers can produce technical documentation faster, more accurately and with richer 3D content than ever before.”

The production of product related documentation and training material often takes place as a separate function outside of product design and development. However, much of the information necessary to create this documentation comes from product development and is subject to rapid change. As a result, documentation may be produced late in the product development process and is subject to errors and incomplete content due to disconnected systems and processes.

The integration of Teamcenter with Cortona3D RapidAuthor, places documentation authoring, illustration and publishing within the same PLM environment as product development to align publication activities with product processes and information. The capture of Teamcenter product data within Cortona3D RapidAuthor provides automated links between 2D and 3D illustrations and structured text, providing interactive documentation. By connecting the product and document development processes, companies can perform both functions simultaneously with richer interactive content, higher quality and increased productivity. As the product changes its documentation is also updated.
