Michael Lynch and Rix Kramlich, respectively the CEO and VP of worldwide marketing for Right Hemisphere (Fremont, CA) visited New Hampshire recently to introduce Right Hemisphere 5. The software platform is an integrated suite of visual product communication and collaboration tools designed to improve your ability to get your product and all its ancillary support materials to market faster.
The Right Hemisphere technology is what helps Adobe leverage the U3D format in Acrobat 3D to enable PDF users to mark up, annotate, and animate 3D models in PDFs, along with embedding them in editable PDFs. Likewise, its Deep View product, one of nine products in the new suite, is the technology enabling users of the free Adobe Reader to view 3D PDF files.
Right Hemisphere’s suite of products now integrates with all major product data management and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems, and enables the re-use of accurate and up-to-date product information. The software also automates the delivery of product information to anyone in the extended enterprise and in whatever format is required. Users can import files into Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications and support includes access to native MCAD formats such as Pro/Engineer, CATIA, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and NX. This means stakeholders across the extended enterprise including sourcing, sales and marketing, manufacturing, training, and service and support functions can easily incorporate visual product information into their products, electronic catalogs, communications, and other deliverables.
According to CEO Michael Lynch, Right Hemisphere’s software platform makes 3D more accessible across the board. The enhanced 3D PDF publishing capabilities make it possible to automatically author and publish rich, interactive 3D PDF files without requiring any JavaScript programming knowledge. With Right Hemisphere 5, users can merge product manufacturing information and key metadata from external sources with 3D models and publish them in a unified PDF. It provides for the integration of a product’s CAD data with marketing documents to automate the production of photorealistic sales materials, for example. Technical illustrations and interactive media can be automatically generated to create electronic service bulletins with animation, online catalogs, printed manuals, and more.
The platform includes new releases of Right Hemisphere’s entire software stack, including improvements and additions to its flagship Deep Exploration client and Deep Server enterprise software. These flagship products were fine-tuned based on direct customer input from Right Hemisphere customers such as DaimlerChrysler, Bell Helicopter, and Sikorsky, among others. The platform features:
According to an AMR Research study, product launches often fail because the product didn’t meet the customer’s needs, it was late to market, it received poor promotion, or essentially its quality was poor. As seen by Lynch, these causes can be addressed with the product development coordination provided by the Right Hemisphere 5 platform.
“Old processes like e-mail are dangerous,” says Lynch. The Right Hemisphere platform gives companies the ability to “share 3D data as easily as text” whether in PDF or Microsoft Office formats. And it can be done securely, allowing the originator to assign different levels of security to the different stakeholders “publishing the content as relevant for the stakeholder,” said Kramlich.
While the company is targeting the aerospace and defense, automotive, large machinery, industrial equipment, and medical device industries with the platform, they are developing a VAR and reseller channel that can respond to both multinational and two-person shops by matching their needs to specific products in the suite.
Price: Deep Exploration will be available in two versions: the Standard Edition for $495 and the CAD Edition for $1,995. Deep Publish, which has been significantly enhanced, now allows users to more easily publish, view, and share 2D and 3D graphics using Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat applications; and will be offered as a free download. Right Hemisphere’s Deep View is a free viewer that allows users to view and interact with these 2D and 3D graphics in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, or Excel.
Right Hemisphere 5 Deep Server, which is designed for automating product information integration, is expected to be available in early summer. For more information, visit righthemisphere.com.
