Rasterex Software(Oslo, Norway) announced yesterday it was releasing version R7 of itspopular family of viewing products for Windows that allows users toview and print more than 250 different file formats (2D/3D CAD,plot-files, PDFs, Office documents, raster images etc.), without theneed to have the expensive design software accessible to the user.RxHighlight adds advanced functions like mark-up, file conversion, andtext search and extraction for collaboration between team members.

The major highlight of R7 is the fact Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and Solid Edge readers are included free of charge. And while thelicensing of the software has been known as flexible, the company saysits use of FLEXnet 10.0 from Macrovision means customers with be ableto choose between individual licenses locked to each individualworkstation; static network licenses, which distributes a pool oflicenses to designated users; floating network licenses that allow anunlimited number of users; and terminal server licenses, which allowsan unlimited number of users to “share” licenses on concurrent usebasis.

New in R7 is the ability to borrow licenses from the pool of floatinglicenses. A user can borrow a license for off-site work, and check itback in again upon return. And RxView R7 is now equipped to readmark-ups and comments created by RxHighlight. For example, acustomer can set up a network license with a few RxHighlight licenses(for users with the rights to create and modify the mark-up) and adifferent number of RxView licenses (for users who only need to see themark-up).

Optional 3D formats available include ACIS-SAT, CATIA V4, IGES 5.3,Pro/E Wildfire 2, STEP AP203, and AP214. The PDF viewer supportsversion 1.6 (Acrobat 7.0) There’s also improved memory usage, a newclipping method, support for 2-bit raster images, and PDF rotation.
