After several years of development, Oculus has revealed the new and updated Oculus Rift. The device, according to the company, “delivers on the promise of consumer virtual reality and next-generation VR gaming.”
The Rift uses custom display and optics technology designed specifically for VR along with two AMOLED low-persistence displays. This enables visual clarity, the company states. Tracking is completed with an IR LED constellation tracking system for low-latency 360º orientation and position tracking.
The device is also equipped with an integrated audio system, and modifications have been made to the headset so that it is more ergonomic. Users can adjust the distance between the lenses and remove the facial interface to replace the soft foam. The design is also more friendly to those who wear glasses.
In addition to the new Oculus Rift, the company has also launched Oculus Touch. The pair of tracked controllers help deliver hand presence into the virtual realm, and unlocks a new level of interaction.
Below you’ll find a video of the new design. The redesigned Rift is scheduled to release early next year.
