An open-to-the-public technical day where industrial users can see the latest in digital X-ray and computed tomography (CT) inspection systems and data analysis software will be held on June 6, 2019 at the North Star Imaging (NSI) laboratory in Marlboro, MA.

“Use of these precision tools has become essential for ensuring the quality of products made with today’s advanced manufacturing equipment,” says Eric Gingras, business development manager for NSI.

Joining NSI will be experts from Volume Graphics, a CT data analysis software company that will provide insight into the role of CT in digital product lifecycle management. They will also give a preview of their latest release, VGSTUDIO MAX 3.3. The software carries out post-processing tasks such as dimensional metrology; CT to CAD comparison; porosity, inclusion, defect and fiber material analyses; simulation of voxel data; and more.

“As manufacturing becomes increasingly digitized and complex, it’s imperative that rapid assessment of a finished product be carried out with great precision and automation,” says Kamil Szepanski, technical solutions expert at Volume Graphics. “Whether it’s a casting, a composite layup, additively manufactured (3D printed) using aluminum, titanium, Inconel, carbon fiber or ceramic composites, the power of a CT scanner can be adjusted to penetrate almost every material, and the analysis software be put to work on the resulting data to evaluate any defects or deviations.”

The NSI Technical Day will have two sessions on June 6, either 9 a.m. to 12 noon or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with lunch served to both groups from 12-1 p.m.
